Group activities for schools
Probably having seen our web page you know that we offer activities especially for school groups. Here we have a short summary:
For schools we offer a special program which lasts between 2½ and 3 hours.
This includes:
• Visiting the petting zoo
• Guided Wolf Tour
• Your choice from one of the following activities:
- A puppet show (for the youngest up to 7 years old)
- A quiz about the wolves
- A Treasure hunt
- Program where the children learn how to behave around dogs (description below)
- Learn about different cultures in the European Union
For current reasons we offer a new program:
Seeing the increase of accidents between dogs and children, we decided to offer a program where children learn how to behave around dogs. Nearly 100% of the accidents between dogs and children occur because of the wrong behaviour of the children. This could be stopped easily by teaching them how to treat both known and unknown dogs. Here in the park we observe everyday how children react to our dogs, in the end they react 2 ways and both are wrong. The first reaction is running towards the dog and touching it. Something a lot of dogs don’t like especially when the dog is insecure. The second reaction is to shout and run away from the dog. Therefore the dog sees the child that is running away as a playmate or prey and the problem is that the dog will be at least 4 times quicker than the child.
Thanks to decades of education, training dogs and our experience with wolves (the ancestors of all dogs) we are capable of showing children the right and safest way to behave around dogs. We also have many dogs of different breeds and sizes which is ideal to explain and show the kids the right behaviour. And therefore avoid severe accidents.
The group is accompanied by a guide at all times, who will explain everything about the animals seen. Depending on the age of the children we will adapt our explanations.
The school program costs 5.00€ per child
We adapt the tour times to the arrival of the schools
The teachers are not being charged, but we expect a minimum cooperation in organizing and controlling the groups, normally just being present helps.
Usually the children bring their picnic or breakfast along. We start the programme after theiy have had their snack.
